Well I guess someone had to do it and I feel like CC has helped me so much already that I might as well be the one! So, about us. We live in the Pacific Northwest and my D has been involved in MT for about 5-6 years. She has taken voice lessons for 5 years and has had a variety of acting classes and intensives including one summer at BAA. She is a 5'9" belter with a strong lyric soprano and a somewhat quirky, comedic personality. She started very late with dance but she is a decent tapper and can learn combos quickly. Her grades are good but her test scores are meh so she will not be applying to any of the "top" schools. She has a variety of regional and professional credits including a recent production of "Carrie the Musical" starring the incomparable Alice Ripley. We are working with MTCA and can't say enough good things about them. Incredibly grateful that we will have all of you and look forward to supporting each other as we go through the process. GO CLASS OF 2019!!

I have questions about several schools my daughter applied to. She got into Montclair academically, but not into the BFA MT program. The admission suggested changing the major to the BA Theatre Studies and re audition next year. She received a Merit Scholarship from the school and a letter from Clay James. Which he also state that she could re audition for the program. She was also accepted at UARTS to there BFA MT program and to Molloy College to their BFA MT program. She really wants to attend Montclair but I don't want to waist time and money if she did attend and then audition and not get in. I have read other comments and was just curious, if your child was in my child's shoes what would he or she do.

For those of you with opinions and/or experience, which is better to pursue, when time is limited for high school students? Should kids spend their after-school hours primarily taking lessons and doing a school show when possible? Or would it be better to audition for community theater and school, participating in as many performances as possible, and therefore not be as consistent in dance class, voice lessons, etc.? Is there an obvious choice which makes kids more attractive when auditioning?

Theater camps, from the casual to the competitive

"… The options for summer theater camps today are as numerous as Shakespeare's soliloquies. Some programs require auditions, others don't. Some focus exclusively on theater, others incorporate a more traditional camp experience. Some concentrate on putting on large Broadway-style musicals, others on teaching the craft. Some are held in the city, some in the woods." … http://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/theater-camps-casual-competitive-36663880

Ok I'm confused so please someone experienced answer for me! If you take the SAT & don't do that great and then take it again and do better, can't you choose which scores to send to your school? My D 's counselor told them to NOT take the SAT for "practice" as if they don't score well , some schools will request ALL scores & not superscore etc. so why would a school not look at ALL the scores you choose to send them and use your best? Or why wouldn't you just choose to not send the lower score? Isn't it your choice what scores to send to each school you're applying to? Do the colleges have access to your college board account after you apply thereby able to see ALL scores from ALL your tests?

Webster Chicago Unifieds Audition HELP

OKAY so I waited too long to register for my Emerson auditions in Chicago, so all I could get was a 2:00 slot on that Wednesday. I already have scheduled auditions at 1:10pm that day for Webster, so does anyone know from their audition experience with Webster how long it would take at unifieds? I need to be registering at my Emerson audition at least 20 minutes before, so at least by 1:40! Would 30 minutes be enough time set aside for my Webster audition? I assume they wouldn't have me in the room for more than 10-15 minutes, and that leaves 15-20 minutes for registration and paperwork and such. Any input is appreciated!!!!

S has one BFA MT acceptance so far. He can put in a refundable deposit to hold his space and get an advantage of early housing request. We're tempted to go ahead, knowing we can cancel by 5/1, however don't know if we really need to do this or should wait until we see what other offers come in...

Cold, cough and sore throat remedies, please!

With nine auditions just two weeks away, I hear my son coughing in the other room. For the last few day, he has complained of a sore throat and thinks he's coming down with a cold. We usually just move through these things try to keep it simple--tea with honey and ginger, maybe throat coat, but not much more. Still, with Chicago Unifieds coming up, I'm thinking we need something more pro-active, so that he can get in some practice over the next couple of weeks and be in top form for auditions. Any suggestions?
