Hi, my sone will be attending as a MT major for the class of 2023. Are there any other Stage and Screen students or parents on CC forum. I'd love to chat.

Pre-Screen Dilemma - Looking for opinions
We filmed her Pre-screens to submit to Elon (we did them at home) and after we shared them with her theatre teacher and vocal coach. Their biggest issue was with the lighting (too bright) and a few tweaks they wanted done but vocally they were pleased.
So we redid her pre-screens and everyone is in agreement that they are great and we are ready to start submitting. Then we received the results from Elon and she was invited to audition.
So, do I submit the first group of pre-screens or the new and improved ones? Thoughts?

If you could wave a magic wand over the audition process?
As I read through everyones posts and questions it made me curious if there is a consensus on this or if the answers would all be different...
If you could wave a magic wand and have your greatest college audition struggle disappear what would it be?

BFA Musical Theatre Transfer
Oppose to taking a gap year (because that just isn't an option), I have considered re-auditioning during my first year of my undergrad (studying voice) for MT again. It's not I that had bad auditions, I received a lot of positive feedback from amazing schools for having a great audition. I try not to read into it because of my outcomes with acceptances. Can anyone or parents shine some light on the chances of transferring, stories of transferring, and information on transferring (besides the fact you may have to restart as a freshman). This process has been extremely stressful for some us, and any information would be amazing to leave some hope.

A School List resource to help when researching programs and crafting a school list - edited.
ETA: PERSONAL FIT IS MOST IMPORTANT! A balanced list = schools that are not all extremely low odds at artistic admittance + schools that are not all reaches per the student's current strengths and weaknesses + schools that meet the individual goals (training, opportunities, finances, general university preferences, and more) of each student.
By nature of auditions being required, any audition-based program is selective to some degree.
ALSO, this post's intention is simply to help in school list creation. When evaluating acceptances in hand, students need to make sure the fit is paramount, and things such as recent alumni success and/or new leadership are also critical.
It seems to be more effective to look at the schools in terms of the competitivenss within artistic admission instead of tiers - so that would be EXTREME REACH/LOTTERY (less than 3% acceptance rate **approximate**), REACH (4%-8% **approximate**), SELECTIVE (could be broken down into more competitive at 8%-15/20% , and less competitive at 15/20%+ **approximate**), and NON-AUDITION SAFETIES (which might require an audition for scholarships only). The reason for this shift (tier-thinking to competitiveness-thinking) is that great programs exist across ALL of the categories, and "tiers" tend to insinuate lesser quality, even inadvertently. Knowing this info is important so that you can craft a BALANCED list, regarding difficulty of artistic admission, program focus, and your personal strengths/weaknesses/preferences.
We categorized based upon things programs were known for. See below and hope this helps.

CAP (College Audition Project) consultations experiences?
Has anyone had any experience with CAP consultations? My daughter is a junior and we were thinking about signing up with them mostly to have access to CAP United auditions next year, but it looks like you have to sign up for a consultation package to be able to do the CAP auditions. Are the coaching sessions good? Any experiences anyone can share would be appreciated!

The Ohio University NEW BFA program?
I just learned this morning about The Ohio U. transforming their BA program to a BFA program in acting track and musical theatre track. From their website it appears that they will be at NY unifieds/Chicago unifieds. Does anyone have intel about the program, and how they are taking auditions - are they taking walk-ins? I'm going to give them a call but thought I would post here to solicit some information since we are leaving for NY unifieds and trying to tighten up our schedule. Thanks!

Hopeful Musical Theatre Major - Please help !
Hi, I am a junior finishing up the year and hoping to start this process for next year. I am just so nervous I won't get into a BFA MT program and am looking for some good advice on schools that might be a good fit for me. I did participate in Penn States summer program last summer and loved it there but I know it is competitive - as is everything it seems. I definitely have the most interest in the BFA in MT but I also have had a lot of choreography experience regionally and in my school so having a strong dance program is important to me. I have done school, community and regional theatre since I was 5 and just had my first professional experience this year. I have danced for over 10 years, done gymnastics and this year choreographed both the middle school shows as well as the high school shows. I am on leadership at my school theatre department, won a Cappie for costuming and have been nominated for many awards regarding theatre. I am a strong dancer, told I am a great actor (?) and have to work really hard at my signing. I have a voice and acting coach for four years. I seem to always be cast in good parts (some leads, some ensemble) in both my school shows and regional theatre. I am going to be a dance captain for a regional production this summer. I take hard classes - will have taken 7 AP classes and 3 dual enrollments by the time I graduate. I have a 4.5 GPA and scored a 1280 on my SAT ( I hate tests!) . I am hoping someone will accept me into a MT program and am going to go to Unifieds this upcoming year. I am looking for any recommendations of schools - both large and small - I am open to anything / anywhere that I can sing and dance!!! If anyone has good advice on schools for me , PLEASE SHARE!!! Thank you in advance!

Do I apply as MT or Acting?
Hey All!
I’m in a bit if a tough spot right now, and I could use some advice. So, for the past couple of months, I’ve been preparing to submit prescreens and audition as an acting majors to several universities. However, I think I’d be lying to myself if I said that Musical Theatre did not interest me. I just never thought I was good enough, but recently I sang to my college audition coach and she said I have what it takes to do MT if I apply myself.
This has left me really really confused and conflicted about what I want to pursue. I’m a male with 4 years of private vocal coaching and 5 private acting training, but 0 years of dance experience. I want a program that has extremely strong acting training, but I also want to be able to work on my voice and receive dance training. I guess at the end of the day my question is — what do I do? MT or Acting? Is it too late to start MT preparation? Such a confusing time.
Oh, by the way, here is my current school list for those interested lol

The A1 Auditions 2020 (waitlist question)
Have any of your college students had any luck coming off of the waitlist for the A1 Auditions? I know they have had tons of people send in prescreens and attend the prescreens... Just wondering how the wait list works, if it's depending on people registering or if it's depending on how much other talent they see at prescreens.

Headshot Questions
I know there are past articles about headshots, but I also know that trends and taste change often, so I thought I would ask again to get a fresh take.
Obviously, electronic submissions of headshots is fairly simple - however, physical headshots in auditions is where I have my questions
I really only have 2 questions:
1. Is a Landscape/Horizontal Headshot a no-no? Our best headshot is a landscape picture and does not work as well cropped for a good portrait/vertical look. Not sure if this is something colleges frown on.
2. Border or no Border? Is a border with name necessary? Is a full border, or perhaps a bottom only 'footer' style border the way to go? Forget the border/name thing entirely?
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Applying before I audition?
I’m planning on being a musical theatre major, but I’m not 100% set on my audition choices. Would it be unwise for me to apply to the actual school so soon before (maybe a month or two) before I actually send in a video/schedule an audition?

Summer/year-round work
Hi, I have a graduating senior and I’m a little confused on how things work with auditions. If you attend setc, uptas, a1s, strawhats, etc., and are lucky enough to receive an offer... how do you ask for time to wait until all auditions are completed?
I am also curious about on site location auditions- do places like the Muny, Wichita, the Fulton, flat Rock, etc., hold non-equity auditions ?
Finally, I would really appreciate any feedback on the unified auditions listed above or any others as funds are limited as is time.
Thank you!

BFA MT & Honors Colleges
I imagine that it's possible for a student to be part of an Honors College and get a BFA in MT in four years on some university campuses but not on others.
I will look into this for select universities but have not yet begun my investigation; anyone who knows whether or not an attempt to be part of a Honors College and graduate with a BFA MT program in four years is logistically feasible, I would appreciate learning what you know.
In some instances, I imagine the demands of the BFA in MT program may pose too many requirements and / or schedule conflicts with an Honors College to do both, whereas on other campuses, there is a way to do both and still graduate in four years.
